Another SMU football season is in the books, and it once again leaves a bad taste in fans' mouths.

After last season's 1-11 record, the firing of Phil Bennett and the hiring of June Jones brought high expectations. But that was not to be. The season once again made fans ask, what went wrong? And hope for a better year next season.

The Mustangs completed their second 1-11 season in a row on Saturday in a 28-12 loss at Ford Stadium.

SMU held close in the first half after giving up a touchdown to Southern Miss on its opening drive. Those would be the only seven points the Golden Eagles would score in the first half, the fewest points allowed by the Mustangs in the first half all season.

The Frogs' regular season is done, but they continue to climb the polls despite the lack of games.

TCU moved from No. 14 in the BCS to No. 11 after this weekend's off week, and the rumor mill about which bowl game the Frogs will be playing in is churning.

Just like most Americans, my Thanksgiving break from school and work was full of the three F's: family, food and football.

After spending quality time with my family over some amazing food, I watched some terrible football.

Seriously, why are the Detroit Lions in the NFL?

In light of the bad football on TV, I decided to get together with some of my buddies from high school to play our own football.

The Mean Green will step into the Super Pit tonight for the first time this season to take on Jackson State University and hopefully continue its two game run.

NT (3-1) has not played the Tigers (0-3) this century, but should not have a problem with an easy win.

To save you a trip to Wikipedia, a deus ex machina is "an improbable contrivance in a story characterized by a sudden unexpected solution to a seemingly intractable problem."

In plain English, it's an improbable character resolving an impossible situation.

LITTLE ROCK - The LSU Tigers had two hands on the Golden Boot, but the Arkansas Razorbacks weren't ready to part ways with the rivalry trophy.

Senior quarterback Casey Dick, playing in his final game as a Razorback, found wide receiver London Crawford in the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown with 21 seconds remaining to give Arkansas a 31-30 win over LSU on Friday and possession of the Golden Boot for the second consecutive season.

Head coach Gary Patterson said he misses all his seniors, but the 22 men who played their final game in Amon Carter Stadium Saturday afternoon may be missed more than most.

"I miss them all, but there are levels of groups you miss," Patterson said. "If you could've just been in the locker room at Utah, you'd understand.

Oh, what a difference one year makes

You can put a big "X" on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, on your calendar.

It was one of the darkest days in recent Arkansas sports' history. It was the very bottom of the valley, an all-time low, the nadir of the Razorback nation's suffering.

The Arkansas football team fell 31-28 to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the perennial Southeastern Conference cellar dwellers, who knocked off the Razorbacks for the first time in a decade.

After hauling in seven receptions for 213 yards in a 35-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens left the game with a smile on his face, but donít expect that to last long.

Earlier last week, Owens went on the NFL Network for an interview.

Following a season in which 10 newcomers, including six freshmen, joined the squad, the NT volleyball team failed to make the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the first time since joining the Conference in 2000.

Although the team finished with a 6-25 overall record, head coach Cassie Headrick said her players "don't even realize what they've learned.
